50-602-09A.A2013.P1.J01 - An Introduction to Statistics

Description

Statistics propose several tools to support decision making. The main objective of this course is to prepare students for the mandatory statistical course in the M.B.A. program.

We study descriptive statistics, whose purpose is to summarize the information in a data set. The issue of estimating an unknown amount whose value is of interest to us is also discussed. Finally, the concept of a random variable is introduced. We use simulations to assess the possible fluctuations of a variable of interest, based on the variations of the variables it depends on and whose behavior we know. We study simple linear regression to estimate the dependence relationship between two variables, and make use of this relationship to predict the future. The software EXCEL is used.
